[livejournal.com profile] rakshathedemon asked for Faramir meets Galadriel, or Glorfindel.

Day 350

as part of the An Elf-lord Revealed series.

The Hand Of History

Faramir stepped outside into the cooler night air to catch his breath at last after a long day of celebrating the King’s wedding. As he gazed up at the stars, he reflected that ever since Elessar had called him home, he had felt caught up in a story or legend. And now he had dined with the brother of Elros, first king of Númenor....

"May I join you?" Almost noiseless footfalls at his side.

"Of course, Lord Glorfindel." Faramir bowed. And here was one whose fate was twined with the last of Anárion’s line. Would it be unmannerly to ask...?

*curious* How so?

Hee, what fun Faramir must've had, meeting all these legends!

ohhh - the real question is what does Glorfindel want from Faramir?

Very nice!

Faramir must have felt like the kid-in-the-candy-store; all these great Elves with so much knowledge of Numenor, Gondor, and the history of Arda. I imagine that many Gondorians were excited, to say the least, at the sight of so many Elves, mysterious beings out of occasionally sinister legends, actually living and breathing and talking. The bards must have been frantically taking notes, or at least mental shorthand...

Nicely done - I really wish you'd write some longer Faramir pieces.

Well, if I were into slash, I could give a very immediate and plausible answer, but...

Top 10 Things Glorfindel Might Want From Faramir?

1. Recipe for Ithilien Rangers' Toasted Marshmallows

2. Boromir borrowed coin from Glorfindel before leaving Imladris, and Glorfy wants it back.

3. To see if Faramir has a sense of humor like his brother's - Have ya heard this one: A Balrog and a Dragon walk into Dol Guldur...

4. He needs a fourth for an impromptu barbershop quartet, and remembers Boromir saying that l'il brother can sing.

5. Glorfindel wants to try the latest Gondorian fashions, after thousands of years of Imladris tailoring, he's really ready for a new look, can Faramir recommend a good local couturier? (Faramir will probably refer him to Imrahil, who is the fashion plate of the family, and has the Best-Dressed Knights Evah)

6. To tell Faramir some things about Earnur that didn't make it into the history books and songs - that Earnur had a thing for Ringwraith #3 and was determined to kill the Witch-King who was a rival for Third's affections.

7. Wants a look at Denethor's legendary collection of Numenorean porn.

8. To congratulate Faramir on snagging the Witch-King's slayer; and is it true that Eowyn was wearing a chain-mail bikini when she whacked the WiKi?

9. To ask Faramir if he's seen Pippin - the rascal stole Glorfy's lembas.

10. To share a toast to Boromir!

But I'm sure that Tanaqui can, and should, come up with a better answer.

Oh, marvelous... I agree with previous comments that Faramir's feeling of disbelieving wonder is absolutely well-portrayed, in your usual powerful but subtle way. I also love Almost noiseless footfalls at his side. to describe Glorfindel's arrival. Delightful final line.

Oh, ouch - my sides hurt from laughing. These are fabulous and very creative. I can't even pick a favorite, although I especially love 5-8 and 10.

Thanx; I had a lot of fun writing them up; though I'm not sure how Faramir would have reacted to a question involving Eowyn and a chain-mail bikini...Unless Eowyn had told him it was just the latest thing in shieldmaiden fashions, bought it at the Gap of Rohan,etc...

bought it at the Gap of Rohan

*splutter* Now my mind is stuck on a movieverse image of a hip fashion store tucked along Edoras' main street...

On a different topic, I'd like to take the opportunity to concur with a previous comment: You really have one of the best inventories of Tolkien icons, the ones above being a great case in point.

I can't claim originality on the notion of the Gap of Rohan store; I've seen it in at least one parody and of course it stuck in my head.

The movieverse Edoras was a very gloomy place; maybe Lothiriel will open a Gap there. The "Gap" I picture is a store that has a lot of horse-wares and riders' accessories, and perhaps some fancy armaments as well as chain-mail bikinis for Shieldmaidens...

Thanx for the compliments to my icons - I can't remember all the LJ sites I've visited to get them; though fileg's LJ is definitely one...
