Well, the idiot will keep acting like he's still interested in her. And then she has to try hard not to act like she's interested back, even though she is, because she knows he isn't really interested. (Except he is, of course... he's just oblivious....)

And pretty hard for Jake - who (apparently) carried a torch for five years - to suddenly realize he doesn't love the girl anymore. Or at least, not in the same way.
Yup... and even at the end of the story, he's not quite ready to accept it completely, because it's a big, scary thing to admit....
