Divers Excursions and Alarums

With lazy strokes, Faramir struck out across the reef, peering down through the clear turquoise water. Behind him, he heard the splash of Aragorn joining the search.

Spotting his quarry, Faramir took a deep breath and dived. A few powerful kicks carried him to his goal. Working carefully to avoid being stung, he prised out chunks of the desired fire coral.

Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed Aragorn, legs flailing, attempting to reach another patch. Then a sudden flurry, and Aragorn was gone.

Alarmed, Faramir surfaced, to find Aragorn spluttering – but apparently none the worse for wear.


(Author's note: I'm sure Aragorn learned to swim in Rivendell as a child and was competent, but I can see Faramir being much more experienced at swimming in the sea and diving reefs.)
