Homage
The tunnel walls magnified the tramp of feet. But, here in the dark, Gollum was back in a world he knew. Not the familiar passages of home, perhaps, but echoes, the movement of the air told him – there! He dived for the safety of a bolt hole to one side: invisible but not unsensed.
As the orc-clamour faded, something else came, paused at the entrance to his hidey-hole. The malice of another will beat upon him and he bowed beneath it – but its owner bulked too large for this side way.
Slowly, Gollum raised his head. "Lady, let me serve."
