Some days my muses need a restraining order....

I'm going to be visiting scribblesinink this summer, so I've started learning Dutch. This is probably not entirely necessary, since pretty much everyone in the Netherlands speaks English, but it means I shouldn't need to bother scribblesinink every time I can't read a label in a museum (even if she's currently being very bothered with questions while I'm learning). Also, I like learning new things and keeping my brain ticking over, and I'm a bit sad that I've rather let the other languages I've learned lapse. It also means scribblesinink can share interesting things she finds in Dutch with me more easily.

Anyway... I guess you can see what's coming next. "Hey!" say my muses. "That new language you're learning? Wouldn't it be really cool if you got some extra practice in it by writing fanfic in it?"

I should point out here that I've been learning this language for two and a half weeks....

*facepalm*

Anyway, so I humbly present My First Dutch Fanfic (because I suspect my muses aren't going to let this alone and there may be more):

You're learning Dutch... =D ...and will be visiting the Netherlands - when? where? Maybe we could try a meet-up cause you know I'm just south of The Netherlands, in that other country that speaks Dutch (and French, and occasionally German too).

(I'm still at the really, really early stages but it would be great to have more chances to practice!)

I'm visiting end of June/beginning of July, but I'm afraid scribblesinink lives about as far away from Belgium as it's possible to get while still being in the Netherlands and I shall be whizzing through Belgium as part of a long train journey. :(

Maybe next time I visit, I can arrange to take an overnight break in Belgium and we can meet up?

Chances are that I'll be occupied around that period of time - so that would have been equally as problematic as scribbles living far away from Belgium. =P

Whizzing through Belgium will give you an inkling of its landscape and how it looks in a blur. =P

If you're back some day, then yup ... meeting would be cool. =D
