Day 91: Distractions

[livejournal.com profile] mooncross said Faramir is so perfect... maybe you should write a drabble about Faramir's (character) flaws. He must have some.

Day 91

Distractions

Éowyn, reaching for the bread, glanced up as her husband sauntered into the room. She watched a servant execute a neat sidestep without breaking stride – hinting at long practice and custom – as Faramir sightlessly groped for the back of his chair, pulled it out and sat down. Without looking, he reached for his spoon, dug it into his porridge, let it waver in mid-air as he turned a page–.

"Faramir!"

Startled, he looked up at her, his gaze still distant.

"Yes, love?"

Éowyn leaned across and took the book from his unresisting grasp. "Do you have to read at breakfast?"

Aw. I can imagine him doing that all his life, when he could get away with it.

(although I'm not sure its a flaw, my whole family always read and ate at the same time :))

I can see Éowyn wanting to nip it in the bud before she ends up with all their children reading at meals and saying "But Daddy does it!"

Ooh, now I'd like to see a drabble of that

Awww...I love it. What's more, that is SO me. I've even been known to read while walking home from the bus stop ;)

Charming, but irritating. Been there, done that, suffered when others did.
I like the well-trained and experienced servant. By the way of a prompt: what is the literary situation in Gondor? Do they have writers, new books, some sort of circulation, pulp romance, pulp moralistic tales in comic-strip style? Or just archives of Elven tragedy?

I loved this. I can just imagine it !

Very cute, and I love Eowyn's exasperation at the end. I could just see Faramir doing this-- sort of like Beauty and the Beast, where Belle walks through the village with a book plastered to her nose!

Hee! I love this, I can so see it happen. Must be all those books Aragorn had copied... And I especially love the detail of the servant being so used to encountering a reading Faramir. I take it he not only reads at breakfast, but also while walking around, heading for breakfast (or wherever else). That's gotta be dangerous... *imagines servants scooping loose items out of the way that might otherwise trip up their distracted lord*

I'm just not sure this counts as a flaw. An irritating (or endearing, depending upon POV) habit, surely, but a flaw...?

it seems I failed the "find Faramir's flaw" test

Well, it could be that he just doesn't have any...? *looks around at rest of fandom*

Very funny, and true-to-life! I would think that Eowyn will break Faramir of this habit before too far into their marriage...They both have to learn to get along, but some habits have to change with marriage.

:-) Oh, he's too cute!

Love the servant.
