tanaquiljall: (Drabble RDA)
[personal profile] tanaquiljall
As I'm planning to observe the Content Strike tomorrow, I'm posting tomorrow's drabble a little early.

Also, I've started doing something about moving away from LJ. I've been uncomfortable with how LJ is being run ever since Strikethrough, and every incident since has made me less happy about being here. I'll admit nearing the end of posting my year of daily drabbles makes it easier to move after this kerfuffle, although my other big reason for not moving - which is the great community of people posting here - hasn't gone away. Still thinking about how best to deal with that. Anyway, I now have an Insane Journal account where I've transferred all but the last couple of posts from this LJ and my SGA one. Feel free to friend me over there and I'll friend you back. *g*

And on to the drabble. In honour of the work [livejournal.com profile] allie_meril has done in promoting the strike and helping keep me informed about other developments with LJ, I chose one of her prompts: How about something on those three Ruling Queens of Numenor? Too bad the three queens were all famed for their bad qualities: Ancalime was too proud (I think), Telperien was a harsh queen who refused to marry or something like that, and Vanimelde was a silly twit who loved music and dancing better than ruling. Also another nod to [livejournal.com profile] rakshathedemon's request for Faramir interacting with a daughter or grand-daughter.

Day 340

A Question of Character

"Father?"

"Yes, Silmarien?" Faramir, glancing up from his book, noted the frown on his daughter’s face as she perused hers.

"Did you marry Mother because you thought all Númenórean ladies silly?"

Stunned, he stuttered, "I–. No. Of course not. But why–?"

Silmarien tipped her book up. "The Ruling Queens of Númenor were very silly. Horrible to their husbands, or refusing to marry, or thinking of nothing but pleasure. You would not have wanted to marry someone like that."

"Quite." Faramir smiled. "Although I knew several sensible and kind Gondorian ladies I might have married. But your mother... she was special."
