I really liked Ted as a character. I loved the fact that he "broke" in the end. I thought it was so true-to-life. Not everybody is going to be a "hero" and not everybody can simply pick up a gun and storm the stronghold, especially when it's guarded by people you've known all your life (or at least for years).
Yes. I always felt he was the "ordinary man" counterpart of Jake--they seemed similar in a lot of ways. But Jake's the "hero", while Ted's like most of us would be. And he did show a lot of courage--I think it's not clear from watching the show at that point how much courage was involved in going against Constantino and slipping that note to Jake in the factory. I always worried about what happened to him after he ran away, because Constantino wouldn't forgive what he did.
I do need to start looking for more Heck fic. :)
