Ill news came soon again. The passage of Anduin was won by the Enemy. Faramir was retreating to the wall of the Pelennor, rallying his men to the Causeway Forts; but he was ten times outnumbered.

Day 65
Retreat
A flight of arrows high overhead, to rain down death, give pursuers pause. All but the foremost falter, fall back, as their lines grow ragged with gaps.
Shield – so heavy now – coming round to parry scimitar blow from those too close for feathered death. Thrust of sword into neck above crude armour. Black blood.
A step back, and a step back, and another, and another. Most of their front line dead. Disengage and turn to follow the archers, already falling back.
Bowmen whirl, arrows nocked. Sounds behind. Turn and lift shield to meet next wave. Thrust. Blood. A step back....
