Legolas sighed heavily as he waited for his father to return at the head of the victorious Elven-host. The greatest battle of the age – and he had been left behind to guard the borders!

And little to guard against: only the occasional spider attack for days. The Goblins were too busy gathering at Mount Gundabad and marching on Erebor to make their usual raids. After the battle, he had to deal with a few Orcs that reached the forest margins, true, but they were too weary and dispirited to make fearsome foes.

Would he ever have a chance for glory?
