October ended up a bit more manic ficwise than I expected because of various RL things that meant my brain wasn't in fic mode some of the time (although most of the RL things will have good long-term consequences, like earning money...).

Also manic because I posted 40,030 words this month. *stares in shock at total on calculator* OK, so I wrote the first draft of about half of those words before the start of October, in the second-longest-thing-I-ever-wrote, but all the words needed some editing.

Part of the reason for the mania was because I signed up to a couple of challenges this month that I was determined to complete successfully.

Firstly, I took part in the annual [livejournal.com profile] spook_me Halloween ficathon, where you pick a "creature" prompt and get two secret prompts, this year from the titles of pulp novels. I couldn't resist picking "Insect" as my creature prompt so I could write about Giant Ants in Jericho.

I also won the (story) lottery! I posted the seven stories for my prompts at [livejournal.com profile] story_lottery - five were for Jericho, one for Tolkien, and I wrote my first Supernatural casefic!

Jericho - Keep The Home Fires Burning - Adult
Tolkien - All The Days of Their Grace - Teen
Jericho - Take a cup of kindness yet - General
Jericho - Fool's paradise - General: Part 1 of 3, Part 2 of 3, Part 3 of 3
Jericho - All-American Hero - General
Supernatural - The Golden Hour - General
Jericho - Better Late Than Never - General

My partner in crime/co-dependant/enabler in all of this was the awesome [info - personal] scribblesinink, who not only made the stories so much better with her suggestions and beta work but who capped the month off by buying me 6 months of paid time on Dreamwidth. *squees* Because she is just That Damn Awesome. (Or possibly wading through the edits on her 40,000 word story has addled her brain....)

In short, this was a good month!
