Glad you enjoyed the story--I was really pleased with the part about Dale myself, since that never really got address in the show.
I know what you mean about Jake and Emily's history - I do think Jake would have to get past that before he could properly involved with anyone else. (On the other hand, my interpretation of what we saw in the show is that things aren't really working between them any more, and he eventually understands that. *g*)
And Beck and Heather's interactions in the show really are wonderful. I would have been quite happy to see a LOT more of that, and would have had no problems with them ending up together canonically.
