I find drabbles a wonderful form for focusing me as a writer on what is truly important about a scene, and what can be cut and still leave the essence of the scene intact. While it's nice in a longer story to have the room to express myself more freely, I hope I carry the discipline of asking "What work does this word do? What does the reader get from it? Do I really need it?" that is involved in creating drabbles into everything I write.
