Day 98: Force Majeure

tanaquiljallSo, we're having a wee spot of bother round here with both an excess of (flood) water and a lack of (mains) water. Which inspired me to drabble something vaguely related to either Rohan Suffers Great Floods after the Long Winter or Enedwaith and Minhiriath devastated by floods.
Day 98
Force Majeure
Cold fingers reach out tentatively, stretching up to stroke the quaking reeds and shivering tips of the withy branches. A witness would scarcely notice the rising threat: quiet, slow, patient, deadly.
After a while, the fingers begin to work their way into cracks and crannies, seeking weak spots, filching anything that can be thieved, flashing and flaunting their ill-gotten gains as they pass on.
Suddenly, the casual pickpocketing becomes an assault: punches are thrown, slaps dealt, the cowering victim battered with anything to hand.
With a final angry roar, the water overtops the banks and hurls itself across the water-meads.
