Day 330

as part of the Things as they were in all the days of my life series.

A flower of the seaward vales

Denethor tiptoed into the darkened room and signalled the nurse to leave.

Moistening a cloth in chilled water, he pressed it to his wife’s forehead. Finduilas stirred and opened her eyes, squinting at him despite the dim light.

"Husband?"

Denethor stroked the damp, dark hair back from her temples, "Has it eased?"

"A little, I think." She began to sit up. "I must make ready...." She let out a pained gasp and fell back against the pillow.

"Hush." Denethor leaned down and kissed her cheek. "We will do well enough with out you. Sleep and be well upon the morrow!"

Ohh, Denethor in a kind, caring moment. A very nice change, thank you for sharing!

(And those lurking headaches are sooo annoying. Though I suspect Finduilas's headache was a full-on migraine.)

Thanks and YW - I get a little tired of seeing ratbastard!Denethor in fanfic, so I'm always happy for an excuse to write him other ways! {{{hugs}}

And yes, definitely a full-on migraine (which I occasionally get) rather than the mild "I wish this would go away so concentrating isn't such an effort" headache I had. ;-)

Absolutely beautiful title, and I second the applause for loving!Denethor. What a nice moment between them, although I ache for Finduilas as I sometimes get migraines myself.

Thank you! Can't really claim credit for the title since I stole it directly from Tolkien (he put some great phrasing in the Appendices) and glad to know there are other people who appreciate loving!Denethor.
