Three memes I've seen all over my flist recently:
The Ask Me Meme
The problem with blogging: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

The Pimp My Fics Meme
Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then admonish your readership to do the same so you can find new stories to read and pimp.
Tolkien Chance Meeting I had fun writing the "politics", I had fun working on the slow reveal and misdirection. And I learned how to write scenes involving more than two characters (thanks to Gwynnyd for helping me understand how to "populate the room").
Tolkien Failure I argued liked hell with my betas about this piece, but I ended up very happy with how it turned out. (And they were right about some stuff, but I think I was right about sticking to the stripped-down style.....)
Tolkien Cup of Bitterness: First Meeting Managing to sustain getting inside Denethor's head for several thousand words (he's hard work). Also the first piece where everything really gelled together writing-wise for me
Stargate: Atlantis Through The Looking Glass The piece that got me writing again after a long hiatus when I thought my fic muse had been killed off completely. Also, I think a pretty good attempt at writing a Sheppard/secondary female character piece without turning the love interest into a MarySue.
Stargate: Atlantis Delusions A new voice for me (I'd not written from Weir's POV in a longer piece before), a story I'd wanted to explore since I saw the episode but it took me a while to find out "what really happened", and a challenge to present a complex scenario in a way that (I hope!) works.

Date: 2008-10-18 11:25 pm (UTC)"Cup of Bitterness" is awesome, I say again. But I don't think I've read the other Tolkien tales yet. *adds to list*

Date: 2008-12-16 07:11 pm (UTC)Places I've lived in the UK include Cheshire, Yorkshire, Shopshire, Merseyside, Gloucestershire and several places in London. London was fun to live in for a while, but I think I'm happiest in the town where I've ended up in Gloucestershire. (Which is not the town I spent my teenage years in, which I like more now than growing up but still wouldn't want to live in!!)
I've been on some great visits to the US to stay with fandom friends - Michigan to stay with
I've also travelled in Europe a bit - France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, Norway and Sweden. Norway was definitely my favourite - it's a lovely country (if very expensive)!
In the UK, I've holidayed or travelled for work to most parts of the country where I haven't lived - my favourites are Cornwall, especially the far west, where my grandfather's family came from, and Scotland, particularly the Orkney Islands where I've been on holiday twice.

Date: 2009-01-20 02:26 am (UTC)I agree very much about Washington/Idaho country; quite a bit of Oregon, too. The coast near San Fran (Big Sur) is utterly lovely, but just too many people! (Says the visitor from the state with absolutely the lowest overall population density. *g*)
I'd love to visit Scotland next, I think. I've been there once but it was practically a drive-by photo-shoot sort of thing. Then probably Wales or Ireland...

Date: 2009-01-27 07:06 pm (UTC)Oh yes!
I hope you get a chance to visit Scotland for longer - it really is a beautiful and fascinating country.
