All my stories that have previously been nominated should be marked with a banner; I'll try to mark any that are nominated this year within 24 hours.
This is a drabble series about Elrond and his sons, with drabbles from Days 286, 294 and my pay-it-forward meme.

Parenthood is sometimes a trial for Elrond -- especially when his sons remind him of another pair of brothers.
Like Father, Like Sons
Capacity for Mischief
Singing songs that teased honoured visitors as they wound down the narrow paths into the valley was one thing, but Elrond drew the line at his sons dropping fir-cones on them from perches in the trees.
They would have mulishly denied it, save Elladan was caught with pockets stuffed with missiles, and Elrohir would not let his brother suffer punishment alone.
Elrond, setting them to study with Erestor learning one of the old lays to recite to their guests before they left, considered his sons’ capacity for mischief – and hastened to the library to order all ink bottles locked away.
Illustrated
Elrond tapped off the excess red ink from his quill before carefully adding another spot to his design. The bottle of black ink lay discarded to one side, having already played its part. He would have liked some blue, too, but Maglor kept the precious colour securely locked away. Still – Elrond took a step back and admired his handiwork – the results were pleasing.
"Are you finished? Can I look now?" Elros asked impatiently.
Elrond nodded and reached for the silvered glass–
"What madness is this?" Maglor stared in amazement at his "tattooed" charges.
"We’re being Swarthy Men!" Elrond explained proudly.
Family Tradition
"'Tis a pity Elven-memory is so long." Elrond fixed his sons with a stern look. "I have spent an hour making amends to Celepharn for the discourtesy shown him. At least the 'reception party' did no more than sing songs. No fir-cones were involved."
Elladan sighed. "Shall we ever be allowed to forget that?"
"Never!" Erestor, approaching, smiled at the Master of the House. "For Elven-memory is indeed long. I myself remember two brothers when the world was young who sought to play at Swarthy Men...."
Elrond made a brief gesture as if to stay him, and then shrugged helplessly.
