Dog Tree and ficcish things

A lot of people enjoyed seeing my pictures of The Dog Tree, a tree that gets decorated every December by the dog walkers who use the common near where my mum lives. I thought you'd like to see what the tree looks like when it "decorates itself". *g*

Also, for anyone on this flist (and not also on any of my other flists, because I know you guys know) who is interested in fic in the Tolkien fandom, the 2009 Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards have just opened and are taking nominations. There are always lots of really great stories nominated. Oh and check out the archive, which lists all the stories that have competed previously - you can be pretty confident that anything that placed is pretty darn good.
scribblesinink has been pointing me towards some interesting posts about writing recently.
cupidsbow has a great post about how "turning a cliché, channelling the Id" can be used to produce powerful fiction. And there's a list of Vonnegut's Rules over at
meta_writer.
scribblesinink and I are very busy doing our best to fulfil #6 and #7 in Vonnegut's list in our Shiny!New Fandom. SGA has not been completely neglected - I've still been betaing for people and I've written something for
sga_genficathon (waiting on the author reveals there before I pimp it). But most of my energies in the past couple of months have been directed towards writing in the shared universe that
scribblesinink and I have going for Jericho - we have 28,000 words in 10 weeks between us. In a couple of days' time, when we have the stories we're currently betaing for each other posted, that'll be nearly 40,000 words. *g* Did I mention that my muses like this fandom?
And now back to your regularly scheduled SGA discussions....
