Day 151: Letting Go

Denise asked for a follow up to A Makeless Making showing Celeborn as a new father. Holding Celebrían for the first time? At a joyous point, anyway.....

Day 151

as part of the Celevron a Mallen series.

Letting Go

Celeborn tried hard not to clutch his daughter's shoulders too tightly as he crouched behind her. A leaf drifted down from above, on past the branch on which they stood to the green lawn many feet below.

Celebrían wriggled impatiently under his grip, and stretched out her chubby arms. With a deep breath, Celeborn let go. She tottered unsteadily forward, and he followed behind, his hands still hovering protectively either side of her.

Celebrían reached the safety of her mother's arms, and Galadriel swept her up.

"'Gain, mama!"

Celeborn, revelling in his daughter's delight, joined his relieved laughter to hers.

Thanks, Barbara. Glad the wood-Elfin-ness came across. I wanted a moment that (like the Galadriel drabble) was both typical of parenthood and very specific to the Elves. And childminding a toddler many feet up in the air must be even more nerve-wracking than the human way!

Also, thank you for all your great elven prompts - you really have made me expand my horizons with elf-drabbles. Who'da thunk I write so many? (Still wouldn't call myself a natural Elf writer, but I definitely have a better feel for them than I did.)

Thanks. {{{hugs}}} Definitely had to be in a tree - Celeborn surely had to teach his daughter to walk around unafraid along those heights (which you only really get if you grow up doing that as normal) as well as in the streets of Ost-in-Edhil.

Oh, goodness, I've been out of the loop for a while... This is just wonderful, Tanaqui! I can picture it exactly: Celebrian eager to go, Celeborn bent over and hustling after her, his hands on either side - Lol! Truly delightful and utterly fitting for an Elf of the forest. For some reason I can see him being a typical overprotective father, too, whereas Galadriel would be more... not aloof, but willing to let Celebrian step out on her own, even though it might mean some bruises.
