In a comment in response to Divers Excursions and Alarums, Denise said Surely Imrahil would not let King and nephew have all the fun, and would be sporting in the same waters...? Who do you think taught Faramir to dive? *g*

Day 168

as part of the Wild Swan series.

Kings of the Sea

Boromir was already a dim, flickering shadow against the reef's bright colours by the time Imrahil finished repeating to Faramir the advice already given on shore.

Uncle and nephew slipped over the side of the boat, tanned skin sliding into azure shallows. Faramir dived, and Imrahil followed him down, close but not crowding him.

Gliding alongside with slow, powerful kicks, Imrahil touched his nephew's arm and pointed: to anemones opening and closing in the current; gaily striped fish nibbling at coral; a hermit crab scuttling for sanctuary. Faramir turned his head from side to side, grey eyes wide with wonder.

Oh, Liz! I just love this!

Coral reefs and nekkid men??? tanned skin sliding into azure shallows.... *faints*

I love the fauna that Faramir sees, and how Imrahil is obviously looking out for his young nephew, to make sure he is safe....

Beautiful!

er, that was me!

But you knew that anyway!

This drabble reminds me of the lovely days we spent at Point Lobos and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and how your terrific camera so beautifully captured the varying colors of the ocean....

(And nekkid men, too! ;-D)

Er, not that your camera captured any nekkid men, more's the pity!

What a wonderful family moment. I love that Boromir is already long gone, bold older brother that he is, and that Imrahil is such an excellent teacher: reminding, prompting, but not hovering either.

And nekkid or nearly-nekkid Imrahil, to boot. Mmmmm...

Beautiful imagery, even without the "tanned skin" line, and such nice characterization - you always do a great job of showing, not telling. Thank you for this lovely follow-up!
