After Lost Lore, Denise commented But: partners-in-mischief? With Denethor??? You wouldn't care to elaborate on that, would you? Although... There is Elboron's sock/clock escapade, and Beregond's promise of similar tales of Faramir. I guess it runs in the genes?
Day 242
as part of the Things as they were in all the days of my life series.
Misspent Youth
The business of war was serious. But on leave in Minas Tirith, Húrin recalled, young officers were sure to find trouble.
Trestles chained to the axle of carts unwisely left overnight in the marketplace. Linens, spread on bushes to dry, hoisted into trees beyond the washerwomen's reach. Soap in the fountain by the Great Gate....
Somehow, Denethor contrived to look like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, while Húrin wore a guilty air on the rare occasions the Tower Guard apprehended them.
One such time, Denethor had looked up thoughtfully at the citadel, and sworn to steal the Guard's standard....

Date: 2008-01-01 07:48 am (UTC)I particularly love the line: ...Denethor contrived to look like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, while Húrin wore a guilty air on the rare occasions...
LOL! Yes, it's always useful to have someone about who can't help but look guilty when you're caught. *g*
So what would the punishment be for a pranking young soldier?
