[livejournal.com profile] elena_tiriel said I was thinking last night about whether Elrond and Celebrian would be able to sense when Arwen died.

Day 284

Tidings of Doom

Námo sought out Elrond and Celebrían where they walked in the cool shade of his brother’s garden.

"He is come," the Doomsman of the Valar told them. "Your foster-son."

Celebrían clutched her husband’s arm. Elrond forced his voice to steadiness. "And our daughter?"

"Not yet. He tarries so they may make the final journey together. I think she will not keep him long."

After Námo left, Elrond put his arms around his wife and held her close.

"I thought this grief old and dulled," Elrond murmured at last into Celebrían’s hair. "Yet here it is anew and sharp as ever."

Very nice, Liz!

I think how Elrond reacts is especially realistic... even if you know you are going to lose someone, and try to prepare for it, it still hurts all over again when it happens.

Well done!

*Sniff* That's sad. Knowing her death is inevitable still doesn't make it any easier :(

Of course, this means the twins will soon sail and be reunited with their parents!

ooh,.... the sorrow! For both but for Elrond to first have lost a brother to mortal life, then a daughter...

This is so sad - I have to hope that Elrohir and Elladan didn't wait too long to join their bereaved parents. Though personally, I think they might have come to Aman already.

Very well done - Arwen's choice must have been especially difficult for Celebrian; but we know that Elrond loved his daughter and this would have been an unhappy time for him too, knowing that both his foster-son and daughter were parted from him forever.

Oh, well done. I think you captured their grief very fittingly and believably; at least they were in an appropriate place. It must have been so hard on them both: Elrond because of repeated loss, and Celebrian because her final year with her daughter was so horrible.

Re: the twins discussion. How long do you think Celeborn stayed?
