Kate smiled in welcome and John slipped an arm around her waist. Dropping a kiss on her hair, he looked out over the city spread before them.
"How was your day?" Kate's voice was soft, unthreatening.
"The usual." He shrugged slightly, drawing her closer.
"Uh-huh."
