Day 84
Anniversary
On the anniversary of the crowning of King Elessar, and for three days after, the Steward was at his king's side while Gondor celebrated.
On the fourth day, with the King's leave, Faramir left the White City and crossed the river.
Once across, he rode slowly, seeing crops sprouting gladly in fresh-tilled soil, new thatch gleaming gold on barn and byre, farm-folk waving as he passed.
Aragorn, watching him depart, had almost wished to ride with him, so he might witness the quiet joy and fierce pride on the Prince's face as he toured his Princedom on its first anniversary.

Date: 2007-07-11 07:22 pm (UTC)I guess I always see some tension for Faramir between his duties as Steward and as Prince, but I don't think he resents attending Aragorn's court. And I can see Aragorn wanting to celebrate with Faramir the way Faramir celebrated with him and perhaps being a little frustrated that duty prevents him.
Anyway, thanks for the interesting insights and the lovely compliments!

Poor Aragorn, stuck amid all the fancy anniversary celebrations; I think Faramir got the better part of that one.

Date: 2007-07-12 03:51 am (UTC)And I love the last paragraph - Aragorn's own pride in his Steward, and his understanding of what this time must mean to a second son who never expected to have Ithilien for his own.
