Beware of the Sea

He was a good Man. A kind Man. Too kind, perhaps. He let her ride to the Elven-haven to speak with her own people when she would.

When do you leave, Captain?

She loved him. She loved her children. But she longed for the sea.

The tide is turning. If I am to sail tonight, I must go aboard....

To live so near to the waves, breaking at the base of the rocky promontory on which her home stood, so she could never be free of their whispers, waking or sleeping....

Forgive me! A greater love, a greater need calls....

Day 188

Fairy Tale

Sometimes Imrazór had to pinch himself to remember he was not living in some tale of yore. For what was his life but a series of tableaux that beggared belief?

First the weary huntsman, a flash of white promising success after a fruitless day.

Then the pursuit. Until, drawing a bead, he finds 'tis no hart but an elf-maid, fair and trembling.

Coaxing slow trust, offering succour and shelter – until at last she lays her hand in his.

A joyous wedding in the spring. Two bonny bairns.

And now the hunter seeks through leafless winter for his vanished fairy wife.
