[livejournal.com profile] elena_tiriel gave me the following quote
The figure by the door moved. In the dark without moon or stars a drawn blade gleamed, as if a chill light had been unsheathed. There was a blow, soft but heavy, and the door shuddered.

'Open, in the name of Mordor!' said a voice thin and menacing.

The Fellowship of the Ring, LoTR Book 1, Ch 11, A Knife in the Dark
and remarked "Did you catch that about the Nazgul's sword gleaming, like Sting does?"

So, just how did a Nazgul get a glowy blade? ;-)

Day 267

Taken In

In times past, his forefathers had been gifted with many treasures. From the Dwarves, mail that was light to wear yet could turn the heaviest blow. From the Elves, blades that did not blunt with years and use, and warned of approaching danger. From the lesser Men of these conquered shores, labour to raise strong walls and lofty towers.

It was only fitting this offering should come to him, who had studied long and garnered mastery and wisdom greater than any other of his race.

Inclining his head graciously, Abattârik reached out his hand to take the ring from Annatar.

More of my current, bizarre obsession with Sauron. *g* As a follow on to yesterday's drabble, I was wondering what kind of rousing speech his troops got when he sent them off to attack Gondor....

Day 146

Hubris

"Khamûl brings good news!" Sauron's words rang out as he addressed the Southron and Easterling captains. "Our plans succeed. Many of the Horse-Men who long have defied and attacked you are slain. Their prince is dead. Soon we will capture their king as he skulks in the mountains."

"Now we must send more troops to strike at those who aid them, the filthy tarks. Their leaders will flee before us. Their people, oppressed by lies of Númenor, will learn the truth and embrace you as brothers."

Watching the strength of Mordor march from Minas Morgul, Sauron knew victory was assured.

I seem to be thinking a lot about Saruman and Sauron and their relationship at the moment. O_o This is set after Pippin looks in the Orthanc-stone.

Day 145

Honour Amongst Thieves

Across the miles, the shriek of disappointment sounded clearly. Sauron turned a portion of his mind to attend Khamûl.

...sayss he hass no prissoner... no longer hass the sstone...

Angrily, Sauron strode across the hall and into the chamber where the palantír rested. Focusing his gaze towards where the Orthanc-stone should be, he saw nothing.

So much for "allies"!

Had he not supported Saruman, helped arm him, sent troops across the river in his support? All he asked in return was a little loyalty and for Saruman to deliver the treasure Sauron craved.

Vengeance would be swift for such betrayal.

[livejournal.com profile] elena_tiriel gave me the quote:
And sometimes as a man may cast a dainty to his cat (his cat he calls her, but she owns him not) Sauron would send [Shelob] prisoners that he had no better uses for: he would have them driven to her hole, and report brought back to him of the play she made.

Day 144

Of Mice and Men

Throat parched, each rib-cracked breath a hitch of pain, Callon staggered on. Little choice: if he halted, the flick of an orc-whip kept him moving.

They turned aside to climb the valley – to Cirith Ungol, and a noisome hole gaping in the cliff face.

A gurgle and hiss from the deeps. The fear of the unknown rose to choke him.

What would Captain Faramir do?

Squaring his shoulders, regretting he could make no report to his captain, he walked steadily forward.

The orc-captain spat. "Garn! Filthy tarks never gives much sport. Better make somethin' good up for 'Im to 'ear."
